By USMC Combat Vet
In the past 6 months we have bought our first tower style cooling fans. I bought 3 other brands and returned them, reordering 3 sizes of the Vornado brand. Choosing either the tower cooling fans we bought 3 or in assorted sizes, OR this model with a heating element inside as well, they operate completely different than any ordinary fan or heater. If you look directly at it, you point the Vornado Logo in the direction you want to heat or cool. What you will get is an "arc"of warm or cold air (your choice!) in what I would estimate to spread out to maybe a 45 degree swath of air. Here are specs for those who missed them, it is a VERY SHORT 20 inched high!Color BlackWarranty 5 yearsHeat Settings Low/Medium/HighHeat Regulation Adjustable ThermostatFan Settings Continuous/AutoHigh Heat Watts 1500Low Heat Watts 750Amps 12.5Item Weight 5.35 lbs.Item Height 20 in.Item Length 7.88 in.Item Width 5.49 in.Remote NoHigh Heat Amps 12.5High Heat Temperature 90Low Heat Temperature 40Hertz 60HZVolts 120V It offers 3 fan setting, auto, or continuous with or WITHOUT heat. If it tips over it has an auto shut off feature. 5 Year warranty and I am happy. 6 position thermostat, and i LOVE the fact this design does not need to oscillate. on every single one of my oscillating tower fans or heaters, THAT is always the first feature to fail. It either beings making unheard of awful noises that drive me nuts or just quit working altogether. Without that headache, this offers longevity I have yet to find in other brands. The 5 year warranty is also nice. Even nicer, I have never had to use it yet on any of my Vornado products.... About "Noise". Yes it can make noise depending on the fan speed you chooses. It is a different sound than a conventional fan and I like that it is more of a white noise. So it also acts as a sound machine if you will to aid in helping me sleep, masking noisy dogs in my neighbors yards etc. It does not give you that clanking God awful noise of an oscillating fan going south....I give this a 4 star rating overall. 4 stars if you have to pay full price retail, 5 stars if you can get it for around $75.00-$80.00 on sale. The best use for this particular size fan is in a room of small to medium size.

We purchased this heater after our other, much older one, burned out. This heater is relatively small and runs pretty quietly, which is nice. But that isn't enough to compensate for the absurdly poor amount of heat that it puts out. We didn't expect much from a small room heater, but out of all of the room heaters that we have ever used this is by far the weakest one. It is also disappointing that this heater has very few settings and doesn't oscillate. If you want a little heater to warm your toes during spring while you're also running a stronger heater then by all means, get this one. If you're looking for an actual heater that has the ability to heat an entire room by more than 4 degrees than this is certainly not for you.

By Naomi (Storm)
I've been a fan of Vornado for a very long time - their "whole room circulation fans" are still my go to fans and a few of mine are pushing ten years old now (and still working just fine). While their latest generation seems to have cut back on some of the features - fans only have three speeds now and there's a bit more plastic where there used to be metal - they're still some of the best air movers on the market imo.I've got two of these tower style fans now,and I have to say (no pun intended) that I am not a fan of the style. The problem with the tower style fans is that they don't move enough air, and the air that they do move is in a very small linear space. If you have this heater blowing directly on your person, it feels nice and warming - however, if you're slightly to the left or right of that person, you won't feel a thing because you're outside of the air band. The non-tower Vornados compensate by moving more air - the movement of the air is like a cone, spreading out from the base. These towers simply don't have enough "oomph" to achieve the same effect. So do they achieve the "whole room heating?" Yes and no. The fact is, they do put out some heat, so obviously the temperature is going to go up a least a little bit - but it won't replace a main source of heat like a fireplace or heating unit. However, if you're one of those people who are constantly cold and you tend to like it warmer than everyone else around you, this isn't a bad personal heating unit. In a large room, the people next to you probably won't even notice the temperature change. The good bits - after running for about an hour on the highest setting, the fan wasn't even warm to the touch. There's also a built-in safety feature where the unit turns off if the base is not sitting on the ground (there was a lot of on/off/on/off when I was positioning this thing around). The noise factor - None of the Vornado lines are known for being quiet, this unit is no exception. As with any fan, there is an expected amount of white noise, I don't really find the amount of noise generated by the TH1 to be obnoxious even on its highest setting, but it is by no means silent. I did have a bit of a rattle, but I think that was due to the base sitting a bit askew. Just moving it back and forth a little bit made it go away, so I don't think it was an issue with the unit itself. Conclusion -The TH1 is a good "personal heater," or maybe a whole room heater if your room is a very small bedroom 12x12 bedroom. The "fan noise" is what I'd consider on the low side, but it is not silent. The circulation is pretty lackluster. The safety - so far - seems above average. The build quality - everything is made out of plastic, no metal that can be seen on the outside, so we'll have to see how that holds up. All-in-all, a very "average" unit.
